Short answer. GONE Fishing 1.0 adds a final boss and an ending, 8 trinkets sold by a new trader called Clinket as its answer to the line, rod and sinker system, a new mythic fish called the Rhizo, and a passive Fish Trap [S1]. It also reworks item prices and quota growth, encrypts save files, and wipes the leaderboard and player profiles [S1]. A hotfix on the same day made legendary and mythic fish achievements count for the whole lobby [S3].

Release timing

The Steam store page lists the release as 20 Oct, 2026 [S4]. The studio's own date moved during the final month of Early Access. On 18 September 2026 the Early Access post "MUSKET, New Bait, TNT, stuff n things" said "1.0 will be going live October 19th" [S5]. On 3 October 2026 the post "Fix It Flounder is angry + SKIPPABLE CUTSCENE.... about time bruh" said "1.0 coming to you on October 20th" [S6]. The preview post of 18 October 2026 gave "this Tuesday at 06:30 EST (11:30 GMT/BST)" [S2].

The preview also says that since Early Access began "480ish days ago", the developers had shipped "227 updates" [S2]. The preview opens with "After 16 insane months" [S2], while the release post opens with "After 14 long months" [S1]; neither post explains the difference.

The release post says three top priorities were required to reach "a proper 1.0 state": a proper ending, a new system for fishing progression, and stability [S1].

Ending and final boss

The release post says "Once you defeat the boss, you will unlock the MOBY and become a true Jeremy Wade apprentice" [S1]. The preview post of 18 October 2026 words the same sentence with one extra item: it says the boss unlocks the MOBY "and Jeremy Wade difficulty" [S2].

Open point: Jeremy Wade difficulty already existed in Early Access. The 2 December 2025 post "Hardcore Mode + New Fish/Nonfish Catchables + Fixes" says "Hardcore mode cannot be set to false if you are playing on Jermey Wade difficulty" [S11].

Other boss-related lines in the release notes:

  • A release-post section titled "The Lake Entity's full form" says Jeb the trader has new bait and warns of "a serious challenge" [S1].
  • Players receive two hearts (tier 6 bait) after defeating the boss and upgrading the butcher table [S1]. The hotfix fixed a bug where players received one heart bait from the upgraded butcher table [S3].
  • The hotfix also fixed bugged trader textures on the final boss map [S3].
  • The Steam achievement "You have defeated the Lake Entity" is hidden and showed a 0.0% global rate when read on 21 October 2026 [S10]. The full list is on the achievements page.

A death and respawn rework is planned for the full release in a forum reply, but it is not in the release post. In a thread first opened by Daniel_USA on 30 October 2025, a player named yo wrote on 17 October 2026 that a respawn bug was "not fixed" [S7]. Bigsexy replied at 14:08 UTC the same day that they had spent the morning "reworking all of the death/respawn code" and that the fixes would be in "tuesdays massive 1.0 update" [S7].

Progression: trinkets and the trader Clinket

The release post presents trinkets, sold by the new trader Clinket, as the answer to the line/rod/sinker upgrades [S1]. Each trinket's effect, how trinkets are shared, and how they combine are on Trinkets.

New fish, creature and gear

  • Rhizo: a mythic fish "lurking in deep waters on the Lake map", described as "one of the most challenging to catch yet" [S1]. The post adds that defeating the boss and acquiring the MOBY rod is required for it [S1].
  • Yeti: appears on the Arctic map, often in intense snowy weather. It asks for tribute, steals items if refused, and can take the player to Yeti Island [S1].
  • Musket: an Early Access easter egg; the 18 September 2026 post puts its chance at under "1% drop rate from skeeter" [S5]. The release post gives it a full debut: it kills most creatures in one shot, breaks after one shot, and comes from Skeeter or map loot spawns [S1]. The post adds that with the musket "every creature in the game can now be killed and used as bait", except pets [S1].
  • Hats: catching Nessie already unlocked a hat; the release post extends that to each legendary and mythic fish, which now also unlock an achievement, and adds level-based hats [S1].
  • Bat: the release post lists an added escape minigame when the bat grabs the player [S1].

Traps and passive fish

The release post reworks the minnow trap, crab trap and rabbit/raccoon trap so they can be harvested at the start of each morning, having caught bait overnight [S1]. It adds a new Fish Trap that collects fish overnight, is baited with bait from the tacklebox, and yields fish that depend on the bait's value [S1]. A Fish Trap upgrade from Jeb lets it collect up to 3 fish per bait [S1]. The post suggests pairing a bait trap with the Fish Trap and says "Buy enough fish traps and you may not have to fish at all" [S1].

Prices, quota and saves

Item and upgrade prices previously scaled linearly with player count [S1]. The release post's example: with 4 players and an upgrade that costs 100 with one player, the old rule gave 400 and the new formula gives "~200" [S1]. Quota growth got "similar changes" and the post expects progression to feel "slightly less challenging" [S1]. It also lowers the starting quota on the swamp map to match the lake map [S1].

Saves and profiles:

  • The post says existing save files still work and recommends starting a new save for the best experience, with the new content reachable on old saves [S1].
  • After "November 20th", old saves can no longer migrate [S1].
  • Save files are now encrypted and cannot be edited with a simple hex or .sav editor; existing saves are migrated at first launch with an automatic backup [S1].
  • To back up a save by hand, the post names three files: "Savefile# enc", "Savefile# _ mac.sav" and "SaveGame#MetaData.sav" [S1].
  • The leaderboard and player profiles are wiped as Season 1.0 begins, with some legacy data kept [S1]. Mod use such as wemod is checked, and a detected player is shadowbanned on the website [S1].

Interface and fixes

The release post lists a Journal V2 translated into Russian, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, Turkish and Korean [S1], a remade tacklebox and invite-friend screen [S1], and an updated lobby and cosmetics screen [S1]. Fixes named in the post include a stingray that was worth 40 when caught and is now about 700 [S1], and non-English subtitles that appeared too fast or too slow [S1].

The hotfix on release day

The hotfix post fixed three things [S3]:

  • Clients did not unlock achievements for catching legendary and mythical tier fish.
  • Trader textures on the final boss map were bugged.
  • Players received one heart bait from the upgraded butcher table.

It also changed a rule: "Now when someone catches a legendary/mythical fish, all players in the lobby will earn the achievement" [S3]. The post's stated reason is that the achievement felt too grindy [S3].

Demo

On 21 October 2026 at 14:36 UTC, Bigsexy told a player in the thread "Question about time and progress" that the demo covers the first map and most of the content, but lacks "the trinket trader" and a few monsters and other things [S8].

The updates before the full release, in date order, are on the version history page. Player count, co-op, crossplay and Steam Deck details are on the players page.
