Short answer. The Steam page for GONE Fishing warns of "territorial beasts, stalking nightmares, and ambushing predators" [S1]. Most creatures can be avoided, scared off or killed. The 20 October 2026 release post says the musket "Kills most creatures in one shot" and that "every creature in the game can now be killed and used as bait" [S2]. When a creature grabs a player, a timing minigame opens an escape window [S3]. The table below lists each creature, where the sources place it, and what works against it.

Rules that apply to most creatures

Escaping a grab. On 13 July 2026 GONE Studios replaced button-mashing with a timing minigame: "a ticker spins in a circle and you have to lmb when its in the green zone" [S3]. The studio wrote that grabbing creatures give "a consistent 6 seconds to escape" [S3] and that the difficulty scales with how many times a player has been captured [S3]. Bats were jump-scare creatures at that point [S3]. The Update 1.0 notes then "Added an escape minigame to the bat when it grabbed you" [S2].

Killing a creature. The Update 1.0 release post describes the musket as a one-shot weapon that "Can only be fired once before it becomes destroyed and unusable" [S2]. It can drop from Skeeter or spawn as map loot [S2]. The same post says every creature except pets can be killed and used as bait [S2]. Bait use is covered on the bait page.

Night and death. Deaths, respawns and the daily quota are covered on the quota and death page. Early Access notes about night creatures are not restated in the Update 1.0 posts read for this page:

  • On 28 August 2025, when one player was left alive (or a player was solo) and the dog was alive, "the creature will attack the dog instead of a player at night" [S4].
  • On 31 October 2025, monsters got "a 2.5 second delay before they can kill the next player" [S5].
  • On 16 September 2025, lanterns started to flicker: "Will Flicker when the Lake Monster awakens" [S6].

The demo. Bigsexy wrote on 21 October 2026 at 14:37 UTC that demo players "will be missing out on a few monsters, the trinket trader" and other things [S7].

CreatureWhere and whenWhat the sources saySource
StalkerAdded 1 January 2026It lurks around players by day and turns more aggressive as the sun goes down; "unless you approach the Stalker, you won't be in any direct danger" [S8]. It "has a deep hatred for TNT" and enters rage mode if it learns TNT is coming [S8]. A fix of 7 July 2026 means it has to see the TNT first [S9]. Since 27 September 2026 it is "significantly slowed when it comes within a radius of a placed torch" [S10]. A killed Stalker is "some of the best bait in the game" [S8].[S8] [S9] [S10]
SharkmanRebuilt 26 September 2026It now spawns earlier and stalks around the area, and can be "knocked down when shot or blown up" [S11]. The Update 1.0 notes fix a case where it "would fail to abduct a player and then the game would get softlocked" [S2].[S11] [S2]
Father SharkSwamp map, added 29 May 2026The studio says it "does not like to be looked at" [S12]. Looking at it through water no longer triggers it, and a heartbeat sound warns players [S13]. Very close, "he will kill you, even if you look away" [S13]. The Update 1.0 notes fix a case where "the EnderShark would kill players in the boat" [S2].[S12] [S13] [S2]
GigatoadSwamp map, added 29 May 2026A "very territorial" giant frog that grabs with its tongue; it is passified if fed fish [S12]. On 31 May 2026 the studio cut its daily spawns from 4 to 2 [S13]. Its grab uses the escape minigame described above [S3].[S12] [S13] [S3]
Snakes and anacondaJungle and swamp mapsOn 10 January 2026 the studio wrote "Removed the snake creature from the swamp map until it can be reworked" [S14]. On 13 July 2026 the anaconda returned with 8 random spawn locations on the jungle and swamp maps, and getting caught "isn't always the end" [S3]. Zanarkan13 (video of 4 October 2026) heard a big snake on the swamp and advised "you can go around it" [S15] at [9:04].[S14] [S3] [S15]
BatsReported from 14 October 202514 October 2025: a fly-by variant "flies toward the cabin" [S17]. 11 June 2026: Killer Bats became "a little easier to escape from" [S16]. Update 1.0 added the escape minigame and fixed a case where "the flying bat creatures would not despawn on the start of the next day" [S2].[S17] [S16] [S2]
TrollSwamp, jungle and ArcticThe sleeping troll "does not like to be disturbed" and hoards fish, so the studio says "run for your life" if you grab some [S18]. The Update 1.0 notes say it "now spawns starting on day 3" [S2]. On 23 September 2026 the studio wrote "The troll will now aggro when approached with a musket" [S19].[S18] [S2] [S19]
YetiArctic, snowy weatherSee the next section for the changed description [S2].[S2]
Moose and polar bearArcticThe moose charges and can hit hard enough to make a player drop items [S18]. The polar bear's cubs are good bait, but spooked cubs call the mother [S18]. Zanarkan13 (video of 17 October 2026) says the bear "will aggro if you get too close" and can be disposed of with TNT or the musket [S20] at [16:06].[S18] [S20]
Frog tribeSwamp, canyon, ArcticThe frogs collect bait and store it in a trap; "These frogs do not like to share" [S18].[S18]
Crab and ImpalerWater eventsSince 1 September 2026 the water-borne crab "can no longer spawn on the first cast" [S21]. Since 3 September 2026 the Impaler and the crab can spawn after the player has done 6 casts in the same area, up from 3 [S22].[S21] [S22]
IvanLake mapThe studio groups Ivan with "weeping angel" creatures [S23]. On 20 December 2025 it wrote that Ivan "cannot kill you if you are staring at him" and "will only move when he is off screen" [S23].[S23] [S4]
Canyon worm monsterCanyon mapZanarkan13 (video of 6 October 2026) calls it a "canyon worm monster", says players can "hug the wall and avoid the monster all together", or shoot it for bait [S24] at [3:45]. The same video says an alligator near the trader's hut is "easy to avoid" [S24] at [16:59].[S24]
Jungle spiderJungle mapOn 3 January 2026 the studio reworked it so that, when players go into the cabin, "they will roam away" [S25].[S25]
Tiny CrabAdded 7 July 2026It "prefers to sneak up behind you before finally saying hello" [S9].[S9]

The Yeti: two official descriptions

The 7 February 2026 Alpha 6 post said the Yeti "will follow you around waiting for you to give him a fish" and, if not satisfied, "he will settle for you instead" [S18]. The Update 1.0 post describes a tribute system. The Yeti "often spawns during intense snowy weather" and on the first encounter "will simply ask for tribute" [S2]. If the player fails, it spawns again for one more chance, then starts stealing items, and after several thefts "he will take you to Yeti Island and teach you a valuable lesson" [S2]. The text of Update 1.0 is the current one [S2].

Older advice that no longer matches

  • On 29 May 2026 the studio advised players grabbed by the Gigatoad to "mash space bar" [S12]. On 13 July 2026 it wrote "we swapping to something more skill based" [S3].
  • On 10 January 2026 the studio wrote "Removed the snake creature from the swamp map" [S14]. On 13 July 2026 a section of its post was titled "The Anaconda enemy Returns" [S3].
