Short answer. Trinkets are the new progression system in GONE Fishing 1.0: eight buffs introduced by the trader Clinket, which players buy and upgrade to choose their own progression path [S1]. A trinket is not a flat bonus. GONE Studios says that when trinkets activate, "you receive massive buffs" [S1]. Most trinkets are worded as a chance to do something, and they are shared with friends in the lobby [S1]. GONE Studios describes the system as the answer to the Early Access line/rod/sinker upgrades [S1].
What trinkets are
In the preview post of 18 October 2026, GONE Studios named three top priorities for the full release: a proper ending, a new system for fishing progression, and stability [S2]. Trinkets are the progression part. The studio wrote that "With 8 unique trinkets to choose and upgrade from, players can choose how they want to buff themselves and choose their own progression path." [S2] The release post of 20 October 2026 repeats the same wording and adds: "Trinkets are a form of gambling" [S1].
The preview's content overview includes "New Trader and trinket system" [S2]. The release post gives the trader's name as Clinket and says Clinket "introduced 8 new buffs that can combo extremely well" [S1].
How to get and upgrade trinkets
The release post says that if you "buy a trinket or upgrade a trinket", your friends receive it as well, because "These trinkets are shared" [S1]. Early Access upgrades already worked this way in one respect: on 17 September 2025, in the update titled "Fishing Upgrade Overhaul, Fishing UI Fix, and more!", GONE Studios wrote "Upgrades are now shared amongst players." [S6]
The demo does not include the trader. Bigsexy wrote on 21 October 2026 at 14:37 UTC that demo players "will be missing out on a few monsters, the trinket trader, and a few other things" [S4]. Bigsexy gave the same reply in a second thread at 14:36 UTC [S5].
The eight trinkets
The descriptions below are the wording from the 20 October 2026 release post [S1]. Seven of the eight lines begin with "Chance to"; the other begins with "Increases odds". [S1]
| Trinket | What GONE Studios says it does | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Iron worm | "Chance to keep bait after catching a fish" | [S1] |
| Hungry hook | "Chance to instantly get a bite when casting" | [S1] |
| Gambler's Doubloon | "Chance to multiply a fish's value" | [S1] |
| Devil's Ember | "Chance to instantly smoke a caught fish" | [S1] |
| Deadman's Hand | "Chance to instantly reel in a fish" | [S1] |
| Siren's Conch | "Increases odds of catching legendary and mythic tier fish" | [S1] |
| Captain's Stopwatch | "Chance to perfectly complete the first strike minigame when fishing" | [S1] |
| Bassweiser | "Chance to get a buzz off of catching a fish" | [S1] |
Combining trinkets
GONE Studios wrote that the trinkets "were designed with the intention of comboing with each other and other upgrades" [S1]. It names one strong combination: Deadman's Hand, Captain's Stopwatch and Hungry hook [S1]. In the post's words: "When all three of these trinkets activate at the same time, the very moment your bobber hits the water, you will have caught a fish, and it will be in your inventory." [S1] The post leaves the rest open: "What you decide to combo is up to you." [S1]
The effect of other pairings is not described in the sources read.
What trinkets replace from Early Access
Before the full release, progression ran through line, rod and sinker upgrades. GONE Studios wrote that "The problem with the line/rod/sinker system is you don't ever interface with these upgrades once they are purchased, and they provide no real decision making from the player" [S1]. The studio's answer was trinkets: they are chosen rather than automatic, and the activation shows "how much they actually help you with progression" [S1]. For what else changed at the full release, see the page on the full-release changes; for earlier updates in date order, see version history.
Existing saves
GONE Studios wrote that "all of your save files will still work" after the full release and that "all of the new content is accessible on your existing saves" [S1]. The same post still recommends a new save for the best experience and says that after 20 November, old saves can no longer migrate to the new version [S1].
