Short answer. You do not buy or unlock the boat. GONE Studios brought boats back on 28 August 2026 with the words "Each map has its own respective boat" [S1]. Walk to the spot where your map's boat is placed: the dock on the Lake [S13], near Jeb's on the Swamp [S14] and the Canyon [S15], below the treehouse on the Jungle map [S16], and near the gambling pit on the Arctic map [S17]. Details and caveats follow.

Is there a way to buy the boat?

The boat is part of the map. In the 28 August 2026 update post, GONE Studios wrote "Boats are BACK" and described boats as "fully replicated" with item storage [S1].

That return followed a rough stretch in Early Access. On 24 January 2026, GONE Studios wrote "Removed jungle boat again" [S11]. On 24 February 2026, an Early Access update added "an option to manually spawn in the boat on the jungle map" [S12]. Treat that manual spawn option as Early Access. Which boat each map has

The update post names one boat per map [S1].

The Arctic row changed later. On 7 September 2026, GONE Studios wrote that it "Switched the large fishing boat on arctic map for the Jungle boat (rib boat) since it had several collision issues" [S7]. How to find the boat on each map

These steps follow the Zanarkan13 Deep Dive Guide videos, all uploaded after the 28 August 2026 patch and before 1.0. No Update 1.0 note says a boat was moved, but the videos were uploaded before 20 October 2026, so a spot may differ in Update 1.0 [S10].

  1. Lake. Zanarkan13 points out "the dock and the boat" together near the start of the map (Episode 1 - Lake, 30 September 2026, [1:34]) [S13]. The same video shows the way to drive the boat to the far side of the map at [8:10] [S13]. GONE Studios added a water path on 29 August 2026 "from the cabin lake to the lake expansion area" [S2].
  2. Swamp. Zanarkan13 says "The boat's not at this dock like it was on Lake" and that it is "back near Jeb's" (Episode 2 - Swamp, 4 October 2026, [1:58] to [2:09]) [S14].
  3. Canyon. Zanarkan13 says "boats not at the dock" (Episode 3 - Canyon, 6 October 2026, [1:32]) and later "you can see Jeb's place along with our boat and where it spawns" ([12:21]) [S15].
  4. Jungle. Zanarkan13 says of the first dock "The boat's not here" ([7:56]) and later "Down below is our boat and another cabin" ([9:04]) (Episode 4 - Jungle, 14 October 2026) [S16]. At [11:13] the video says you can "take the boat and bring it all the way to the island, which is a lot faster than going by foot" [S16].
  5. Arctic. Zanarkan13 says "your boat and where it spawns at" are in view, with the gambling pit close by (Episode 5 - Arctic, 17 October 2026, [8:06]) [S17]. The gambling pit itself is covered on the gambling pit page.

Getting in, driving and storing fish

GONE Studios says boats "even allow for item storage" and that "Items can be stored by simply dropping them onto the boat" [S1]. The same post warns "If you crash the boat, you will send anyone on the boat flying so drive with some self preservation" [S1]. It also says "Made all boats around 30% faster than they used to be in the og days" [S1].

If getting in is awkward, a 1 September 2026 fix list says GONE Studios fixed "a bug where it could be difficult to interact with the boat to get into it" [S4]. In Early Access on 20 August 2025, pressing Interact Boat on an occupied boat teleported you aboard "but not replace the driver" [S19]. No Update 1.0 note restates that rule, so treat it as unsettled for Update 1.0 [S10].

Boats are also affected by the night event. GONE Studios wrote that if you fish at night "the giant squid will make his presence known" and that warning tentacles are "your sign to park your boat and dip" [S1]. Monster behaviour is covered on the enemies page.

If the boat is stuck, missing or sunk

  • Stuck. The 28 August 2026 post describes "an option to unstuck your boat at the bottom right of the escape menu" [S1].
  • Stuck on land. On 2 September 2026 GONE Studios added "the ability to push the boat if it gets stuck on land" [S5]. The same patch lets clients also reset the boat from the escape menu [S5].
  • Not there the next day. On 1 September 2026 GONE Studios fixed "an issue with the boat not respawning the following day" [S3]. On 8 September 2026 it fixed "a bug where the boat would sometimes not spawn on the canyon map" [S8].
  • Sunk by the squid. Two official lines point in different directions. On 2 September 2026 the notes say "Made boats literally unsinkable" [S6]. On 18 September 2026 GONE Studios still fixed "a bug where on the second time the boat was sunk via squid attack, it would not automatically reset the following day" [S9]. The newer note shows sinking and next-day reset still being handled, so treat the 2 September line with care.

Players still reported boat trouble after the patches. GrazzHopper wrote in the Steam thread "What do YOU want fixed / polished?" on 15 September 2026 at 02:43 UTC (post 65) about "fish falling through boats or disappearing after cooking." [S18]. Bigsexy replied at 14:12 UTC (post 69) asking "Which boat do you notice fish falling through the most?" [S18]. Later in the thread PissBoy (HORNY) reported "the boat freaking out at times" on 17 September 2026 at 01:02 UTC (post 71), and Bigsexy answered at 17:37 UTC (post 74) "this should be fixed in todays patch" [S18].

What the release notes say about boats

The 20 October 2026 release post mentions boats once, in a fix: "Fixed a bug where the EnderShark would kill players in the boat, causing the player to become bugged out" [S10].
